Cross Country Achieves Growth In Rebuilding Season

With the 2021 cross country schedule now concluded, head coach Tyler McQuality had a chance to reflect on the season for his men's and women's teams:

"This season has been a great building season. Coming off of not having a season last year as well as having a young team, we took this year as an opportunity to rebuild and really focus on learning how to race that 6k/8k distance" McQuality said.

"With only a handful of returners, the team all had to transition into college training and racing relatively at the same time which is no small feat. Coaches saw great improvements throughout the season in fitness as well as confidence in collegiate racing" McQuality continued.

"This past weekend Men's and Women's Cross Country Competed at the Midwest Regional Championships at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. The Regional championships brought all those improvements to a head with a 47 second PR from Marie Staub on the women's side and a final spread between the top 5 Men of only 35 seconds. We are looking forward to continuing this momentum into Track and Field with the addition of our Sprints/Throws and Jumps" McQuality concluded.

Track and Field kicks off the indoor portion of their season on January 15th when the Scarlet Hawks compete in the Cardinal Opener in Naperville, Ill., hosted by North Central College.
