Chapin Wehde arrived to Illinois Tech as the head athletic trainer in August 2018, before she was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Healthcare Administration / Senior Woman Administrator / Head Athletic Trainer in February 2021. 

Wehde came to the Scarlet Hawks after serving as orthopedic surgery and sports medicine athletic trainer resident at Hinsdale Orthopedic Associates, assisting in various surgical procedures pertaining to athletic injuries while also carrying out clinical care and presenting at several sports medicine conferences. Prior to Hinsdale, Wehde was the director of sports medicine at NCAA Division III Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. As the department’s head athletic trainer, she developed Millsaps’ first emergency action plans, concussion management policy, hydration recommendations, team physician contracts, and transitioned to an electronic medical records system.

Prior to Millsaps, Wehde had assistant athletic training stops at Benedictine University, Aurora University and Lincoln-Way North High School. Wehde got her start with the Chicago Bandits professional fastpitch softball team, where she served as an athletic training intern. 

Wehde is a graduate of Aurora University, where she received a bachelor of science degree in athletic training with a physiology minor. She went on to receive a master of science degree in rehabilitative sciences from California University of Pennsylvania.
