MSOE Defeats Baseball in Doubleheader

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Illinois Tech baseball team headed to Milwaukee on Monday to take on the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering in two seven-inning contests. The Scarlet Hawks fell to the hosts 10-6 in game one and 3-2 in game two.

How it Happened – Game One

• After the Raiders to a 3-0 lead in the third, the Scarlet Hawks came right back in the top of the fourth to plate four runs. Kyle Bumpass had an RBI single before Orlando Cardenas-Juan doubled in two runs to tie the score. Matt Witkowski followed suit, singling in Cardenas-Juan to give Tech the lead. 
• The Raiders would respond, answering the Scarlet Hawks with a four spot of their own in the bottom of the inning.
• Illinois Tech would score two more runs the rest of the way, as Ted Howell singled in Tyler Tucker in the fifth inning and Cardenas-Juan singled in Zachary Dickey in the seventh.
• MSOE, however, managed to score twice in the fifth and once in the sixth.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts – Game One

• Cardenas-Juan was 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double, and a run scored.
• Dan Rybski was a perfect 4-for-4 in the leadoff spot.
• Zachary Dickey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Stats to Know – Game One

• The Scarlet Hawks outhit the Raiders 14-12.
• Tech committed three errors compared to MSOE's zero.
• Five of MSOE's 10 runs were unearned.

How it Happened- Game Two

• Tech threatened in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs before leaving the bags full. However, the Scarlet Hawks broke through in the top of the third, as the top three of the order all hit safely to start the frame. After a Rybski single and Tucker double, Johnathon Wilcox singled both players in to give Tech a 2-0 advantage.
• Scarlet Hawk starter Neal Shah was strong to start off the contest, allowing no hits through the first two innings. The Raiders were able to get to him in the third inning, scoring twice to answer Illinois Tech's two runs.
• Both teams went to the bullpen early, with Shah leaving the contest after 3 2/3 and Raider starter D.J. Ellifson exiting after 2 1/3. The bullpens, however, were strong, as no team scored over the next two frames.
• MSOE finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a two-out single to take a 3-2 lead.
• The Raiders bullpen continued to be a strength in the final inning, as MSOE's Matt Mohapp struck out the side to end the contest.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts – Game Two

• Wilcox was 2-for-4 with the two RBI in the third inning.
• Dylan Corsi was strong out of the bullpen, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
• Shah allowed just two runs in his start, spanning 3 2/3 innings.

Stats to Know – Game Two

• Tech once again outhit the Raiders, this time 7-6.
• Tucker had the only extra-base hit for the game for both teams (double in the third inning).
• Both teams left eight runners on base.
