Cardenas-Juan, Howell Honored by USCAA

GLEN FALLS, N.Y. – On Sunday, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its All-Americans and All-Academic honorees for baseball. Orlando Cardenas-Juan earned Honorable Mention All-American Honors, while Ted Howell was named to the All-Academic team.

Cardenas-Juan enjoyed a strong freshman season for the Scarlet Hawks. Playing all over the diamond, the California native led the Scarlet Hawks in batting average (.346) and stolen bases (8-for-8). He also tallied 19 RBI, 37 hits, four doubles, one triple, and a .397 on base percentage. Cardenas-Juan was also a decorated cross country athlete at Tech this past Fall, earning several weekly and yearly honors from both the USCAA and the Association of Division III Independents.

Howell, the team's starting first baseman, earns All-Academic honors after a strong season both on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have a GPA of at least 3.5 (on a four-point system) and have enough credits to be of at least sophomore standing academically.

Following the USCAA awards will be announcement of the Association of Division III Independents honorees. AD3I expected to announce the awards in the coming weeks.
