AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Illinois tech baseball team returned to the Lake Myrtle Complex in Auburndale, Florida on their spring trip on Friday for a doubleheader against Hamilton College. The Scarlet Hawks (5-6) and Continentals (5-5) split the pair of seven-inning contests, with Tech taking the first game 5-1 and Hamilton winning game two 7-3.

Game 1 – Runs, Hits, Errors

• Hamilton: 1 run, 3 hits, 1 error
• Tech: 5 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors

Game 1 – How it Happened

• After Hamilton failed to record a hit against Tech starter Roberto Carselle over the first two innings, the Continentals were able to score once on two hits in the top of the third. Carselle worked out of a jam to end the frame, inducing a line drive out to center field.
• The Scarlet Hawk offense went to work in the bottom of the third. After Jacob Sorenson walked and Orlando Cardenas-Juan doubled down the left field line, a passed ball scooted each runner up one base to tie the score. Peter Upham would then single through the left side to give the Scarlet Hawks a 2-1 advantage.
• In the fourth, a David Navarro walk and Tyler Tucker hit by pitch set up an RBI chance for Cardenas-Juan. The junior center fielder delivered with a single to center, knocking home Navarro to double Tech's lead.
• With Carselle still crusing on the mound, the Scarlet Hawks added some more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sorenson drove home pinch-runner Claudo LoBracio before Zachary Dickey singled home Tucker, giving the Scarlet Hawks a 5-1 lead heading into the last inning.
• Carselle would not need any relief to finish this game out, as the sophomore pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning.

Game 1 – Scarlet Hawk Standouts

• The sophomore out of Lewis Center, Ohio stole the show in this one, as Carselle earned his second with by firing a complete game. He allowed just one run, one walk, and three hits in seven innings while striking out five.
• Second baseman Michael Courtney continues to swing a hot bat, as the sophomore was 3-for-3 with a stolen base.
• Cardenas-Juan was 2-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI.
• Dickey and Upham each had RBI singles.

Game 2 – Runs, Hits, Errors

• Tech: 3 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors
• Hamilton: 7 runs, 10 hits, 1 errors

Game 2 – How it Happened

• The Scarlet Hawk offense picked up where it left off in game one, scoring twice in the top of the first. Courtney and Navarro each had RBI singles while two of Tech's three outs in the inning came on a lineout to center field and a play at the plate.
• Hamilton, however, brought the bats in this contest. Over the first four innings, the Continentals would tally nine hits and six runs to take a 6-2 advantage.
• Tech would not go down without fighting. In the top of the fifth, Sorenson walked and stole second before Cardenas-Juan moved him over to third on a ground out. Dickey then cleaned up the work with a double to right center to bring Sorenson home.
• After the Continentals scored on a sacrifice bunt in the sixth, the home team was able to silence the Scarlet Hawk offense the rest of the way.

Game 2 – Scarlet Hawk Standouts

• Dickey shined in this one, going 4-for-4 with an RBI double and lifting his batting average to .483 on the season.
• Courtney was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, bringing his average to .419.
