Rarick, Temple Named Student-Athlete of the Month

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Association of Division III Independents released its Student Athletes of the Month for February this morning. Men’s basketball’s Samuel Rarick and women’s swimming and diving’s Brigitte Temple were selected.

Rarick’s last full month of his basketball career was a dominant February, averaging 19.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game on 58.6 percent shooting as the Scarlet Hawks went 6-0. The senior out of Chicago recorded two double-doubles and shot over 50 percent in five of the six games. Rarick scored a month-high 22 points in wins over Lakeland and Lincoln Christian and recorded a double-double in victories over Dubuque and Emmaus. He averaged 30.3 minutes and per game and scored 20 or more points in four of the six contests.

Temple, a junior out of San Diego, California, had a great end to the season, winning races and setting records at the Liberal Arts Championship. She began the meet by setting a school record with a time of 4:00.16 in the 400 Medley Relay, finishing in second place out of 23 swimmers.  She continued her strong meet by later winning the 400 Individual Medley (4:40.28), beating out 13 other swimmers. Temple, though, saved the best for last, concluding her weekend by setting a school, pool and LAC conference meet record with a time of 2:23.65 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, placing first out of 26 swimmers.
