Swimming and Diving Trains in Florida

MIAMI, Fla. – Over the holiday break, the Illinois Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving team took a trip to the Sunshine State for extended training. While in Florida, the Scarlet Hawks competed in Florida International University’s Sprint Invite, which featured tough competition across several NCAA levels. Tech’s men placed sixth in the exhibition meet, while the women placed 12th.

Several Scarlet Hawks stood out against the tough field. For the men, the 50 Yard Butterfly was one of the highlights of the day, as Julian Escasa (seventh, 24.51s), Seth Wissenbach (10th, 24.74s), Tyler Van Wagener (15th, 25.17s), and Ryan Escasa (T-19th, 25.30s) all placed in the top 20. Julian Escasa also placed fifth in the 100 Yard Freestyle (49.81s). On the women’s side, Katherine Lydon’s 400 Yard Freestyle time of 4:20.08 placed 11th, while Jamie Wurster placed 50th in a large 50 Yard Freestyle field at 27.45s.
