Men's Basketball Announces 2016 Recruiting Class

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team has announced it 2016-17 recruiting class. This year's class features six student-athletes, all of whom have Head Coach Todd Kelly excited about welcoming to campus.

"I am very excitied about our group of freshman this year," said Head Coach Todd Kelly. "Going into this off-season, we needed to improve our depth, three point shooting, and overall athletism. I think we certainly accomplished that with this class. This group, along with our freshman class last season and our returning seniors, will be able to really make a splash this season and put Illinois Tech basketball on the map."

Below is a profile on each incoming student-athlete.

Max Hisitake

Height: 6'7

Weight: 220

Year: Freshman

Position: Forward

Hometown: Las Vegas, Nev.

High School: The Meadows

Intended Major: Architecture

Coach Kelly's comments: "Max is a big, strong, athletic forward who comes to us after being the Player of the Year in Nevada's Division II. Max brings the ability to play above the rim and block shots at a high level. In addition, he can score both inside and out. Being an all-state football player as well, Max brings a much needed toughness and physicality to the Scarlet Hawks roster."

Derrick Freeman Jr.

Height: 5'11

Weight: 170

Year: Freshman

Position: Guard

Hometown: Chicago, Ill.

High School: Whitney Young

Intended Major: Business

Coach Kelly's comments: "Derrick is a fast, quick, athletic guard from the always tough Chicago Public League. He has the ability to be a lock down defender and his speed and athletism will be tough to match at the Division III level. In addition, he has the ability to score from the outside and finish at the rim."

Brindon "Bear" Carleson

Height: 6'2

Weight: 180

Year: Freshman

Position: Guard

Hometown: Loma, Colo.

High School: Fruita Monument

Intended Major: Engineering

Coach Kelly's comments: "Bear is a hard-nosed , tough guard that comes to us from Colorado. Bear has the ability to hit outside shots and spead the floor."

Kohl Linder

Height: 6'6

Weight: 200

Year: Freshman

Position: Forward

Hometown: Penticton, British Columbia, Canada

High School: Princess Margaret Secondary

Intended Major: Engineering

Coach Kelly's comments: "Kohl is a strong, physical forward that can also hit outside shots. He will add some much needed toughness and size on the interior this season. Kohl has a chance to make an impact because of his versatility and strength." 

Brett Ott

Height: 6'2

Weight: 165

Year: Sophomore

Position: Guard

Previous School: Rockford University

Hometown: South Beloit, Ill.

High School: South Beloit

Intended Major: Engineering

Coach Kelly's comments: "We are very excited to add Brett. He adds some much needed experience to our backcourt and has the ability to hit outside shots. Being the son of a basketball coach, he brings a high basketball IQ and is a hard-working, high character guy." 

 

Heath Sheridan

Height: 6'2

Weight: 180

Year: Freshman

Position: Guard

Hometown: Denton, Tex.

High School: Founders Classical Academy

Intended Major: Chemistry

Coach Kelly's comments: "Heath brings the ability to really score the basketball. He was a prolific scorer in high school and can score in a variety of ways. In addition, he can rebound at a high level and brings added versitility to the roster."
