Howze Named D3 Independents Player of the Week

CHICAGO, Ill. – More good news continues to materialize for the Illinois Tech men's basketball team. Today, Malik Howze was named the Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week for his play between February 13-19.

Howze is the third men's basketball player to receive the AD3I weekly honor this season. The sophomore guard averaged 18.0 points, 8.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game as the Scarlet Hawks went 2-0 on the week with wins over Moody Bible Institute and Lincoln Christian University. The Detroit, Michigan native dropped 20 points against Moody on Tuesday (8-of-16 shooting) before recording a double-double of 16 points and 14 assists against Lincoln Christian on Thursday to go along with six rebounds. His 14 assists are the highest single-game total for any Tech player this season and a career-high for the 6'0 guard.

Men's Basketball plays at home twice this week. Tech will host Maranatha Baptist tonight (Tuesday) at 8:00 p.m. before opposing Lincoln Christian University on Thursday (7:00 p.m.). The Scarlet Hawks have also qualified for the USCAA Tournament and will play its first round matchup in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 1 at 4:00 p.m. eastern time (3:00 p.m. central time).
