CHICAGO, Ill. - A streak spanning nearly two seasons was snapped on Wednesday evening, as men's basketball lost its first home game since February 13, 2016. The Scarlet Hawks (9-4) were defeated at the hands of Wabash College (6-6) 66-61.
How it Happened
- It was a low-scoring, back-and-forth start to the contest. No team led by more than two until a three-pointer by Connor Rotterman gave the Little Giants a four-point lead at 18-14 with 10:19 to play.
- Tech managed to cut the lead down to one a few times, but were unable to fully really Wabash in as the Giants took a 36-29 lead into halftime.
- The Scarlet Hawks came out of the half with some newfound energy. Slowly chipping away at the lead, Tech managed to tie the contest at 43-43 at the 14:29 mark on a three-point play from Malik Howze.
- Anthony Mosley Jr. was strong in the early portion of the first half, scoring 11 points in the first nine minutes. Tech also recorded four three-point plays in the first half, including two from Malik Howze.
- Despite the impressive performance from the guard duo, the Scarlet Hawks never led after the 11 minute mark in the first quarter. Tech was unable to score over the final 1:47 to play, as opportunites at the free throw line and a last-second three-pointer by Mosley Jr. which would have tied the score at 64-64 came up empty. Two Wabash free throws with three seconds left made the game a two-possession affair.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Mosley Jr. led all players with 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also had three blocks and two steals.
- Howze managed 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
- Parker Joncus had nine first-half points to keep the Scarlet Hawks around early.
Stats to Know
- Tech was outrebounded 37-29.
- The Little Giants shot 44.8% compared to Tech's 43.1%.
- Both teams took care of the basketball. Tech turned it over just 10 times, while Wabash managed 11 turnovers.
