Offense In Short Supply As Men's Basketball Falls To Marian

Fond du Lac, Wis. - The Illinois Tech men's basketball team's offense never got untracked, and the Marian Sabres took advantage of that in an 86-52 victory over the Scarlet Hawks in a NACC matchup. The Hawks dropped to 5-9 on the season(4-4 NACC). The Sabres improved to 10-5(6-4 NACC).

Marian used a 40-20 advantage in points in the paint and a 17-4 advantage in second-chance points to build and sustain their lead.

The Hawks were down 7-0 five minutes into the first half before a pair of Guy Ostroff free throws got Illinois Tech on the board. An Otis Reale layup with 13:46 remaining put the Hawks within one point at 7-6 before the Sabres took command of the game with a 30-12 run to close out the first half leading 37-18.

Illinois Tech would not get closer than 16 points of Marian the rest of the way, as Marian outscored the Hawks 49-34 in the second half to cement the victory.

Sabres Watch

  • David Britton led Marian with 31 points, including 7-11 from three-point range.
  • Delvin Barnstable added 24 points and seven rebounds.

  • The Hawks shot 8.3% from three-point range on 1-12 shooting. The Sabres finished at 34.6% from three (9-26). 
  • The Hawks committed 18 fouls in the contest; the Sabres had 11 fouls.
  • Illinois Tech was 11-13 from the free-throw line (85%). Marian was 17-20 (85%).
  • Schmitz was the minutes leader for the Hawks, playing 29 minutes. Barnstable and Britton eached played 31 minutes for Marian.
