RIVER FOREST, ILL.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team made a short road trip to River Forest, Illinois to take on the Concordia University of Chicago Cougars on Tuesday. Offensive weapon Aidan Gans returned to the lineup with a vengeance, as his game-high four goals powered the Scarlet Hawks past the Cougars 13-7.
The Scarlet Hawks' second victory in program history gives them a 1-5, 1-3 NACC record while Concordia Chicago falls to 2-8, 1-2 NACC.
Illinois Tech 13, Concordia Chicago 7
The Scarlet Hawks took the lead for good with 0:17 left in the first quarter when Aidan Gans' goal made the score 3-2. The Cougars would only get within one goal of Illinois Tech one more time when Clayton Emery's tally with 11:16 left in the third quarter narrowed his team's deficit to 6-5. This ignited an Illinois Tech offense that outshot Concordia Chicago 24-5 from that point forward en route to a 13-7 victory.
Gans notched four goals and one assist for five points for the Scarlet Hawks, along with a team-best 13 shots. Reed Tangeman tallied three goals and two assists for five points that included 11 shots.
Christopher Stone was dominate in the face-off circle with an 18-of-23 mark, which paved the way for 13 ground balls. Goalie Zane Handy notched seven saves in the complete-game victory for Illinois Tech, while his counterpart Jack Liskey stopped 26 shots in the losing effort for Concordia Chicago. Illinois Tech converted a 17-of-18 mark in clears.
The Scarlet Hawks will face first-year program Edgewood College on Saturday, April 17 in Madison, Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m.
