Illinois Tech Men’s Soccer Captures Purple and Gold Classic Championship with 2-1 Win

Defiance, Ohio- Brahadon Ramirez provided his fifth assist of the Purple and Gold Classic tournament, setting up the game winner for junior Tyler Haag in a 2-1 victory over host Defiance University. The win gave the Scarlet Hawks the tournament championship and moved the team to 1-0-1 on the season.

Illinois Tech started off strong with a goal by freshman Noah Griffith in the third minute assisted by junior Bart Grabowski. The Scarlet Hawks would control the first half with a 10-1 shot advantage but could not find another goal going into the half-time break.
 
The Scarlet Hawks controlled the second half play until they allowed a goal in the 65th minute from Michael O'Brien on a set piece to tie the score at 1-1. 
 
Haag would play the hero with a deft back heel goal off an assist from Ramirez in the 84th minute to seal the 2-1 win and the championship for Illinois Tech.
 
For the game, Illinois Tech outshot the hosts 18-3 and had 6 corners to 1 in the contest.
 
Illinois Tech returns to action on Friday, September 5th when they host Andrews University at 3 pm at Stuart Field. The Hawks are in action again on Sunday, September 7th for a home match-up with Finlandia University with the game slated for a 3:30 pm start time.
