Kwortnik, Bortei-Doku Named USCAA All-American

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Illinois Tech men's soccer team received two United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American honorees at Thursday night's championship banquet. Noah Kwortnik was named to the Second Team, while Brandon Bortei-Doku was named Honorable Mention.

A center back, Kwortnik was named Second Team after anchoring an improved defensive for Tech, which ranked 10th in the USCAA with 1.02 goals allowed per game and recorded eight shutouts. He also proved to be an offensive weapon, scoring four times and often servicing as the focal point of Tech's corner kick attack. He also started in all 18 matches he appeared in.

Bortei-Doku's steady improvement from year-to-year lead to his USCAA All-American selection. This season, he tallied nine goals and six assists to go along with a team-high 67 shots. He recorded a hat trick on October 7 in a 4-1 win over Marantha Baptist and a two-goal game against Andrews on October 13 (5-0 win).

After today's defeat at the hands of #2 UMFK, Tech has one more pool play contest on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. eastern time against #11 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. For the Scarlet Hawks to reach the bracket portion of the tournament on Sunday, ACPHS must defeat UMFK on Friday before a Tech win on Saturday, forcing a three-way tiebreaker scenario.
