Marc Colwell enters his ninth season with the Illinois Tech soccer program and has also served as the department's Assistant Director of Athletics since May 2012. Colwell begins his seventh season as head coach of the men’s soccer team.  

The Men’s Soccer team had a great year in 2017 posting a 14-5-1 record while making the USCAA National Championship Tournament (2nd time in last four years to make it). The team was given the United States Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the third year in a row. Coach Colwell was named the AD3I Coach of the Year.

Two IIT men’s soccer players were named to USCAA All-American teams and five players were named to the USCAA All-Academic team.

Illinois Men’s Soccer took home the top three awards for the AD3I conference; Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Goalkeeper of the Year.

Men’s Soccer had a roster of 32 players for the 2017 season and have 27 returning players for 2018.

The Illinois Tech Men’s Soccer team traveled to Ireland and Northern Ireland over their Spring Break for a cultural and team bonding experience from March 9th thru March 15th, 2018.

Illinois Tech Men’s Soccer finished 7-10-1 in 2016 and 10-8-1 in 2015. The 2014 team finished 13-5-1 and qualified for the USCAA National Tournament.  

Colwell, a native of South Bend, Indiana, was assistant women's coach for Saint Mary's College in 2009 and assistant men's soccer and goalkeeper coach Bethel College in 2008. The Pilots advanced to the NAIA National Tournament that season. He was also the Assistant Director of Coaching for the Junior Irish Soccer Club for three seasons.

Prior to that, Colwell was head coach for both the men's and women's teams at NCAA DIII Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, for five seasons. At Lakeland, Colwell guided the women's team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, three conference tournament championships and three regular season conference championships in five seasons.

Before Lakeland, Colwell served as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. During the 2000-01 Season the women advanced to NAIA Regional Semi-finals and were ranked 10th in the nation. The men’s team finished 13-5-2. Colwell began his coaching career as Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana from 1998-2000. Earlham was a Division III National Tournament participant in 1998 and set school record for wins in a season in 1999 with a 16-3-1 record.

He holds his USSF “B”, NSCAA Advanced National, NSCAA Youth National, and his Scottish Football Association “B” License.
