Third Place in the Cards For Scarlet Hawks After Day One of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic

CHICAGO.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's swimming & diving squad embarked on the first-of-three legs of the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic at the Myers-McLoraine Pool in Chicago on Friday night. 

The Scarlet Hawks competed in the 200 freestyle relay, the 1650 freestyle and the 400 medley relay during Friday's portion. Mark Klinchin was the story of day one with a fourth-place time of 16:31.94 in the 1650 yard freestyle. Teammate Miles Thompson followed in seventh place with a 16:53.21 while Franklin Zheng (17:23.65) and RJ Schroeders (17:38.66) occupied 12th and 13th place. 

The 200 yard freestyle relay squad of Samuel Kastan, Guanghao Ou, Tyler Van Wagener and Kanoa Sawai pulled down eighth place with a 1:26.87. The Scarlet Hawks occupied 10th place in the 400 yard medley relay with a 3:35.60 courtesy of Eric Zhang, Samuel Kalenowski, Ryan Escasa and Seth Wissenbach

The Scarlet Hawks sit in third place out of nine schools with 130 points. Lewis University leads the field after day one with 144 points. Day two of the Phoenix Fall Classic will commence tomorrow, Saturday, November 23 at 10:00 a.m. / 6:00 p.m.
