Men's Tennis Wins Close Match over Talented ONU

CHICAGO, Ill. - On Wednesday, the Illinois Tech men's tennis team hosted the Olviet Nazarene Tigers at XS Tennis in a late morning contest. In what shaped up to be a tight match, Tech won its fourth match in a row, as the Scarlet Hawks downed ONU 5-4.

How it Happened

  • While Tech dropped #1 doubles, the tandem of Yousef Abdo and Adam Laitinen coasted through #2 doubles for an 8-0 win.
  • One of the match's decisive spots was  #3 doubles. With the Tigers beating Franklin Zhong and Brody Croonquist 7-5, the Hawks stormed back to win 9-8 (3) and take a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
  • After Abdo was dominant in #2 singles (winning 6-1, 6-1), Laitinen and Croonquist followed suit. The two won in #4 (6-1, 6-1) and #6 (6-0, 6-3) singles respectively.
