Scarlet Hawks Show Promise at Chicago Phoenix Opener

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's track & field squad kicked-off their 2020 campaign at the University of Chicago Phoenix Opener on Saturday, where they claimed fourth place with 28 points. University of Chicago claimed the team championship with 228 points. 

Robert Mathis was dynamite in the 200 meter dash with a fourth-place time of 23.68. He built on that momentum with a fifth-place time of 7.17 in the 60 meter dash. 

Evan Balizado was dominate in the 800 meter run with a seventh-place time of 2:05.43. The 3000 meter run resulted in an eighth-place finish for Thomas Doyle (9:31.10), followed by Julian Go's ninth-place time of 9:48.38. 

Barry Brookins pulled down third place in the weight throw with a 14.61m, and tallied fifth place in the shot put with a 12.42m. 

The Scarlet Hawks will compete in the North Central Cardinal Opener on Friday, January 17 at 4:30 p.m.
