Scarlet Hawks Display Impressive Marks at Cardinal Opener

RESULTS

NAPERVILLE, ILL.—The second indoor meet of 2020 pitted the Illinois Institute of Technology men's track & field team at the North Central College (Ill.) Cardinal Opener on Friday evening. The Scarlet Hawks mustered 28 points, which secured them fifth place out of eight teams. Defending NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Champion North Central College claimed the team title with 249 points. 

Robert Mathis clocked-in a fifth place mark of 7.18 in the 60 meter dash, which nearly matched his school-record mark of 7.17 achieved at the University of Chicago Phoenix Classic on January 11. Mathis built on that momentum in the 200 meter dash when he crossed the finish line at 23.92, good enough for 12th place. 

The distance group was all Thomas Doyle, who clocked-in a third-place mark of 2:03.27 in the 800 meter run. Doyle was followed by Evan Balizado's fourth-place time of 2:06.85, and Louis Ketchman's seventh-place mark of 2:13.04. Doyle continued to wreak havoc as he registered a 4:35.15 in the mile run, good enough for sixth place. Ketchman was on Doyle's tail with an 11th-place time of 4:41.94 in the mile. 

Barry Brookins commanded the IIT throws after he achieved fifth place in the weight throw (14.60m), and 13th place in the shot put (11.52m). 

The Scarlet Hawks will return to competition on Friday, January 24 at the UW-Parkside Ranger Relays.
