Babusci Tallies 10 Kills, 10 Digs in Loss to BenU

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team played host to Benedictine University on Friday night for the final home match of the season. The Scarlet Hawks gave a spirited effort on Senior Night, but fell in straight sets.

Scores

  • BenU 3, Tech 0: 25-14, 28-26, 25-16

How it Happened

  • The Eagles of Benedictine took control early in the first set, going up 6-2 from the get-go. The Scarlet Hawks hung close, but down 12-8, Tech allowed BenU to go on an 8-0 run. Benedictine held on the rest of the set to win.
  • In set two, things were even early before a 4-0 Hawks run put the team up 8-5. The Eagles would close the gap, with each team exchanging leads down the stretch. A Ryan Barnes kill from Andrew Woltman gave the Scarlet Hawks set point at 24-22. After two straight Eagle tallies, a service error gave Tech another chance to seal the deal at 25-24. BenU, however, scored four of the last five points to escape.
  • Set three started much like the second set, as both teams played even early. It was BenU who took the first distinct advantage, as a 5-0 run put the Eagles up 11-6. Tech cut the lead to two at 15-13, but Benedictine re-built the lead and never looked back en route to the victory.
