Scarlet Hawks Capped 2019 Season With High Hopes

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's cross country squad recently capped their 2019 campaign at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The Scarlet Hawks clocked-in a 24th-place standing out of 36 squads with 708 points.

"I thought we were able to close out the 2019 season strong," said Scarlet Hawks head men's cross country coach Tyler McQuality. "We haven't been at our best the last couple of meets and I thought we were closer to that today. We are doing all the right things internally with our culture and that tells me results will come eventually. Our men were led by Louis, his patience and execution as a freshman is amazing to see, he has a very bright future ahead of him. Overall, we will use this experience to learn, grow and come back this track season and next fall better from it."

Louis Ketchman paced the Scarlet Hawks in 110th place with a 27:11.9 while Julian Go was on his tail in 114th place with a 27:14.5. Ketchman's time was :01 away from a career-best.

Evan Balizado came next in 129th place with a 27:34.4. Thomas Doyle crossed the finish line at 27:54.4, good enough for 147th place. Brendan Conroy notched a 208th-place, career-best mark of 30:26.6 while Mohammed Saleem rounded out the men in 214th place with a career-best 30:52.8.

"I am extremely proud of how the team responded despite the snowy and muddy conditions," said Scarlet Hawks assistant men's cross country coach Desmond Meyer. "I was proud of the guys on how they dealt with the adversity of the conditions. We have had trouble in the past when everything is not perfect, but today the guys fought hard from start-to-finish. We have had great leadership from our seniors and team captains all year, and I believe that is important in order for this program to grow. I am excited for this upcoming track season with this great group of kids."
