CHICAGO, Ill. - Illinois Tech women's basketball hosted a home contest for the first time in nearly a month on Friday night. The Scarlet Hawks hung tough against Maranatha Baptist University, but a sluggish third quarter was the difference in a 52-38 defeat.

How it Happened

• The Scarlet Hawks began the game on a strong note, shooting 44.4% from the floor over the first 10 minutes and leading 11-7 after the first quarter. Tech held the Sabercats to 0-of-7 from three-point range.
• Maranatha used a strong rebounding advantage (13-5) in the second quarter to outscore Tech, but the Scarlet Hawks managed to keep the score to a 20-20 tie heading into halftime.
• The Sabercats were able to turn the tide in the third quarter. After shooting 1-of-7 from the free throw line in the first half, MBU was 13-of-15 from the charity stripe in the third quarter alone. The timely free throw shooting, along with Tech's 0-of-8 on field goal attempts in the 10 minutes, allowed the Sabercats to outscored the Hawks 28-2 in the third.
• Tech, however, would rally back in the fourth, outscoring the Sabercats 16-4. Venika Jarvis scored six points and hit four free throws in the quarter.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

• Kaylee Wicka led the Scarlet Hawks with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists. She scored 11 of her 14 points in the first half. She also totaled two steals and two blocked shots over 39 minutes played.
• Jarvis scored nine points, pulled down six rebounds, and led the team with three steals. Raiven Johnson added three steals of her own.
• Erin Efimoff led Tech with three blocked shots.

Stats to Know

• Both teams struggled from the floor, with MBU (25.8%) barley edging Tech (24.4%).
• The Sabercats took 66 shots compared to Tech's 41, a direct result of a 52-38 rebounding advantage.
• Tech outdid MBU in fastbreak points (8-6).
