CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's basketball team battled Alma on Saturday afternoon at Keating Sports Center.  The Scots proved to be a bit too much for the Scarlet Hawks in the second half, taking the game 77-48.

How it Happened

  • The Scots scored the first basket of the game but not until two minutes had been played.  That sparked the scoring on both sides as three Scarlet Hawks contributed to the total during the first quarter.  Alma got into foul trouble early, committing seven team fouls within the first nine minutes of the game.  A late run gave the Scots a 16-11 lead after one quarter.
  • Tech quickly tied the game early in the second quarter and matched the Scots basket-for-basket.  Erin Efimoff began to attack at the rim and earned tough points from the free-throw line.  She scored eight points in the period. All the Scarlet Hawks starters scored in the second quarter, with Efimoff leading the way at halftime with 11. Once again a late run by the Scots in the last 90 seconds gave Alma a slim lead at the midway point, 31-29.
  • Alma's Jessi Jordan hit two quick three-pointers to begin the second half, giving the Scots a five-point lead once again.  The offensive attack for the Scots continued as the lead grew to nine after three minutes of play in the third.  Tech was unable to generate much offense during the quarter and struggled to make a shot from the floor for several minutes.  The lead grew to 18 for Alma by the end of the third period.
  • Alma's Emily Eldridge continued to lead her team and finished the game with 16 points.  Jordan added 12 for the Scots as the visitors closed out the game in a runaway fashion, winning 77-48.
