Alverno Runs Past Scarlet Hawks 66-46

MILWAUKEE—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team returned from a six-day hiatus from competition on Tuesday, where they squared-off against Alverno College in Milwaukee. The Scarlet Hawks held the lead on three occasions in the opening quarter, but couldn't carry that momentum into the final three frames in a 66-46 loss to the Inferno.

The loss drops IIT to 0-4, 0-2 NACC while Alverno ups their record to 1-3, 1-0 NACC.

The Scarlet Hawks' final lead of the game occurred with 0:30 left in the first quarter, where Madison Davis drained a three ball to make the score 13-12. After taking a 15-13 lead after the opening frame, the Inferno held the Scarlet Hawks to just four second-quarter points en route to a 26-17 advantage at halftime. IIT erupted for a 10-4 run to open the third quarter, capped by a pair of Shannon O'Donnell free throws to narrow the score to 30-27 with 6:51 left in the frame. That door didn't close further as five Alverno players contributed points in their 17-5 run to close the third quarter, which gave them a 47-32 lead heading into the final frame. It proved to be enough cushion in a 66-46 win.

Madison Davis paced IIT with 15 points, while Meredith Williams chipped in 11. Four different Alverno players eclipsed double figures scoring, led by 16 points a piece from Sara Redlin and Eniya Madden. Keeshya Bellows grabbed 14 boards for Alverno.

The Scarlet Hawks will travel to Aurora on Saturday, November 30 for a 4:15 p.m. start.
