Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Inferno Past Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team hosted Alverno College at the Keating Sports Center on Wednesday night. The Scarlet Hawks held the lead on five occasions, with the latest occurrence at the 4:10 mark of the third quarter when Brooke Rowan converted a free throw that made the score 40-39. It was the arsenal Alverno needed as they knotted the game 42-42 heading into the fourth quarter, where they outscored IIT 28-16 en route to a 70-58 victory.

IIT falls to 0-19, 0-14 NACC while Alverno improves to 4-17, 4-12 NACC.

Shannon O'Donnell paced the Scarlet Hawks with 25 points, which now puts her at 973 in her third collegiate season. All seven IIT players pulled down a rebound, led by O'Donnell's nine. Erin Efimoff was within striking distance of a triple double with 10 points, six assists and six boards. Erin Nelson tallied an impressive 10 points and seven boards.

Sara Redlin registered eight three-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points for Alverno. Alicia Hornbuckle added 22 points for the Inferno while Keeshya Bellows was dominate at the glass with 10 boards. 

Both teams finished .385 (IIT 5-13) (AU 10-26) from the three-point line, but it was Alverno who prevailed with a 26-64 (.406) figure from the floor.

The Scarlet Hawks will host Dominican University (Ill.) on Saturday, February 8 at 4:15 p.m.
