Women's Basketball Unable to Hold Onto First Quarter Lead

Milwaukee, WI - A game that started out strong for the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks eventually went in favor of the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders. After holding a first quarter lead, The Hawks (1-6, 0-3) struggled offensively against the Raiders (2-5, 2-0) as they dropped the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) game by a final score of 70-32. 

First Half (MSOE 39- Illinois Tech 24)

  • The Raiders got the first basket of the game with a layup at 9:53 before both sides struggled to find momentum. The Hawks tied the game with their first basket at 6:21 by Grace Goodnough. After the Raiders took a short lead, the Hawks got right back into the action, tying the game at 9-9 after going on a 7-0 run between 4:20 and 3:42. At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks held a 2-point, 16-14 lead over the Raiders. 

  • With the second quarter underway, the Hawks were not able to hold onto their lead for long as the Raiders tied it at 18-18 with 8:24 remaining. As the Raiders began their run, the Hawks were able to come within one at 6:46 remaining after a Julia Bucci 3-pointer to make it 22-21. From there, the Raiders didn't look back, as they went on a 17-3 run over the Hawks to close out the quarter. At halftime the Raiders led the Hawks 39-24. 

Second Half (MSOE 31- Illinois Tech 8)

  • During the second half of action in the third and fourth quarter, the Raiders continued to put up points while the Hawks struggled to find their offensive stride. The third quarter went 15-7 in favor of the Raiders. Goodnough picked up 5 of the Hawks points off a jump shot and a 3-pointer. 

  • The Hawks struggled continued in the fourth quarter as the Raiders were able to seal a 70-32 victory. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Chloe Churilla and Goodnough both had 9 points. Churilla led the team with 9 rebounds and picked up 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. Goodnough finished with 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Raider Standouts 

  • Raekyiah Williams came off the bench to lead the Raiders with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 blocks. 

  • Grace Ellington followed with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Hawks went 13-of-46 (28.3%) from the field, 4-of-20 (20.0%) from three, and 2-of-3 (66.7%) in free throws while the Raiders went 30-of-62 (48.4%), 3-of-7 (42.9%), and 7-of-8 (87.5%) respectively. 

  • Hawks outrebounded the Raiders 38-29. 

  • Both sides had 8 second chance points.
