CHICAGO, Ill. – The Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference has announced its All-MWLC teams for the 2016 season. Six different Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks have been honored by the conference, with four student-athletes earning First Team honors.
Abbie Reynolds (First-Year/Gurnee, Ill.) was the only goalkeeper in the conference selected to the First Team, as she compiled a 10-3 record while leading the league in goals against average (7.12). She also ranked second in goals against (103) and third in save percentage (42.5%). The Warren High School product recorded a shutout on April 9 against Cornell College.
Alyssa DeLuca (First-Year/Wrentham, Mass.) earns First Team honors at attack. DeLuca was Tech's leader in goals with 50, ranking her fourth in the MWLC in that category. She was also third in the MWLC in shots (112) and eighth in points (54). She recorded a hat trick in 10 of the 15 matches she competed in, with a season-high of six goals coming on two different occasions (March 11 vs. Benedictine-Kansas, March 19 vs. Beloit).
Madison Meredith (First-Year/Allen, Tex.) was also named to the First Team after a strong season in the midfield. Meredith was Tech's team-leader in assists with 18, ranking her third in the MWLC. She also led Tech with 56 points (fifth in MWLC), 40 caused turnovers (second in MWLC) and 50 draw controls (seventh in MWLC). In addition, the Texas native ranked third in the conference with 74 ground balls and 12th with 38 goals.
On defense, Cassandra Reineke (Second-Year/Waukegan, Ill.) also earned First Team honors. The one-time MWLC Defensive Player of the Week winner was strong on the draw, ranking 12th in the league with 40 draw controls to go along with 47 ground balls (ninth in the MWLC) and 20 caused turnovers. She also tallied two goals and two assists on the season.
Another Tech defender was named All-MWLC, as Jennifer Young (First-Year/Leawood, Kan.) earned Second Team honors. After spending the first few games of the season in net, Young moved to defense and instantly became a strong contributor. She ended the season with 37 ground balls, 22 caused turnovers, and one goal.
Isabella Rubin (First-Year/Concord, N.H.) was named to the MWLC's All-Sportsmanship Team. Rubin, who spent the season playing both defense and midfield, was a MWLC Defensive Player of the Week selection and ranked near the top of the league in goals (31, tied for 17th) and ground balls (78, 2nd).
"I could not be prouder of these student-athletes," said Head Coach Kirk Lamitie, who was also named the MWLC's Coach of the Year. "They work so hard to be successful at their craft and do it all while excelling in the classroom as well. I am excited to see them recognized by the conference and look forward to adding more Scarlet Hawks to this list in the future."
Illinois Tech finished the season with a 13-4 overall record and an 8-1 MWLC record, good for second place in the conference. The 13 victories is an eight-win increase from the 2015 season, when the team finished with a 5-11 record.
