LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's soccer team moved to 2-0-1 on the season on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Lake Forest College. Tech's offense came alive late with three second half goals.
How it Happened
- While the Scarlet Hawks attempted nine shots in the first half, Lake Forest was able to hold off a strong Tech attack. Just one of the shots were on net, as Julia Honda's attempt was saved by Forester goalkeeper Sandra Greco with just 14 seconds left in the first half.
- Tech's defense was even better, as keeper Catherine Klemp went untested the entire 45 minutes. Lake Forest took just one first half shot, which was block 5:36 into the match.
- After the teams traded shots in the early part of the first half, Katie Hoefgen broke the stalemate in the 62nd minute with her fourth goal of the season.
- Just 10 minutes later, it was Anna Delseith's turn. She scored her first goal of her Illinois Tech career off of a Honda pass to double the Scarlet Hawk advantage.
- Hoefgen wasn't done, however, as she scored the team's third goal in the 78th minute to give her five goals on the year and her second multi-goal match already this season.
- Caitlin Kenoian relieved Klemp, who went without facing a shot on net, with 10 minutes remaining. She saved a Charlotte Jackson shot in the 87th minute to help ice the match.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Hoefgen continues to be a force, as the senior scored twice on five shots (two shots on goal).
- Delseith scored on her only shot.
- Honda tallied an assist and a shot on net.
- Erin James (three) and Julia Taliana (two) each attempted multiple shots.
Stats to Know
- The Scarlet Hawks outshot the Foresters 14-5.
- As of press time, Hoefgen's two goals moved her into second in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with five goals. She trails only Shaye Wolfe of Alverno, who has six in the Inferno's two matches.
- Prior to today, the last time the Scarlet Hawks went without a loss was in 2010 when the team started out the season 3-0.
