Scarlet Hawks Fall in 8 Goal Thriller

Scarlet Hawks Fall in 8 Goal Thriller

Mequon, Wisconsin- The Illinois Institue of Technology women's soccer team fell to Concordia, 5-3, in playoff action. The match was back and forth, with both teams scoring, seemingly, at will.

The first half saw the lady Scarlet Hawks jump out to a quick 1-0 lead, in the 6th minute, thanks to a goal from Jamie Grigg. The goal was her 19th of the season. Unfortunately, Concordia responded quickly, and the game was tied, 1-1, by the 12th minute. Selena Esten (Concordia), would then score her second goal of the match, and 20th of the season, and gie Concordia a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute. Once again, there was a quick response, by the team who had just given up a goal, and the Tech ladies got their second goal of the half from Jacklyn McAninch in the 31st minute of the half. Keeping true to the nature of the game, the lead was short lived, and Concordia scored their third goal of the game in the 35th minute. The last 10 minutes of the half were fairly chippy, and the Concordia women were knocking on the door for their fourth goal of the half, but the Scarlet Hawk defense held on, and the score remained 3-2 going into the half. However, Kenna Flores, who had just been subbed on in the 38th minute, was given a yellow card in the 44th minute of the half.

The chippiness, that started to play out at the end of the first half, spilled over into the second half. Unfortunately for IIT, that meant that Flores would receive her second yellow card of the game. This left the Tech women with 10 players for nearly the whole half. They would show grit and tie the match at 3-3, thanks to a second goal from McAninch, but ultimately couldn't keep pace with Concordia in the final 15 minutes of the match, which saw Concordia score two goals against the disadvantaged Scarlet Hawks.

This was the last match of the year for the IIT women's soccer team. Their final record was 13-7-2 overall, and 9-1-2 in conference play. Congratulations on the season, ladies!
