Sunday ITA Regionals Update: Women’s Tennis

SUNDAY UPDATE

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Weronika Halicka and Morgan Colbert, the fifth-seeded doubles tandem in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional, competed in the doubles "A" bracket quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon after three straight victories over the first two days of action. The duo's run came to an end on Sunday at the hands of Emma Alsup and Lauren Hawley of Denison, the second-seeded tandem in the tournament. Tech was defeated by Alsup and Hawley 10-8; 3-6. 

 

SATURDAY UPDATE

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Scarlet Hawks continued to compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional on Saturday at Kalamazoo College. Below is an update on each individual for the day's action, as well as information on Sunday's contests.

The doubles tandem of Weronika Halicka and Morgan Colbert are still going strong, as the duo won twice on Saturday After beating John Carroll's Skyelen Harwood and Megan Reese 8-1, the tandem downed University of Chicago's Catherine Xu and Daryn Ellison 8-5 to advance to the Quarterfinals. Halicka and Colbert will need to win three consecutive times tomorrow to be crowned champions, with the first match coming at 2:30 p.m. eastern (1:30 p.m. central) against the tournament's second-seeded duo of Emma Alsup and Lauren Hawley of Denison.

Halicka's run in the singles "A" bracket ended on Saturday, falling to Xu of Chicago 2-6, 6-4, 3-10. In the backdraw, Kylie Hance was defeated by ninth-seeded Madeline Paolucci of Case Western Reserve 6-0, 6-1. The duo of Hance and Kaitlyn Graves were defeated in the doubles backdraw, falling to DePauw Univeristy's Erin Eriedrich and Amanda Showalter 8-1.

FRIDAY UPDATE

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – It was an eventful first day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional for Illinois Tech women's tennis, as the Scarlet Hawks battled the elements as well as tough opponents. Check out the notes below for a full summary on the day's action, as well as what lies ahead on Saturday.

Weronika Halicka, the singles' tournament's fifth overall seed, won her first two matches of the bracket to advance to the Round of 32. She began the day with a win over Hope College's Elizabeth Pniewski 6-1, 6-0 before being tested by Washington University's (Mo.) Brigitte Hodge. After a 6-0 Hodge win to start the match, Halicka came storming back, winning 6-3, 10-6 to advance. Halicka will face Chicago's Catherine Xu at 8:00 a.m. eastern time (7:00 a.m. central time tomorrow. A win means she would play next at 10:00 a.m. in the Round of 16.

Halicka and Morgan Colbert are also still alive in the "A" bracket as a doubles pairing. The duo was dominant against Lake Forest College's Tyranny Miller and Allison Watts, winning 8-1. Halicka and Colbert will oppose John Carroll University's Skyelen Harwood and Megan Reese tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. eastern (1:00 p.m. central). A win advances the tandem to the Round of 16 one hour later at 3:00 p.m. eastern (2:00 p.m. central).

Kylie Hance also put forth a strong showing. After falling to John Carroll University's Ellie Cole 6-3, 7-5, she won her first backdraw match against North Central's Morgan House 6-2, 6-2. She will oppose Case Western Reserve's Madeline Paolucci, one of the tournament's top 16 seeds, tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. eastern time (7:00 a.m. central time). A win advances her to a match at 10:00 a.m. central (9:00 a.m. eastern).

Kailtyn Graves had a tough matchup against Washington University (Mo.) player Ashley Lessen, falling to the eighth-seeded standout 6-2, 6-2. In the backdraw, she was defeated by Otterbien's Makalya Sutter 6-4, 6-0.

Hance and Graves also played in doubles, falling to Oberlin College's Alandria Bellamy and Delaney Black 8-3. The loss puts the duo in the doubles backdraw, where Hance and Graves will take on DePauw University's Erin Eriedrich and Amanda Showalter at 1:00 p.m. eastern (12:00 p.m. central). A win advances the duo to a 3:00 p.m. eastern match (2:00 p.m. central).

Colbert played one singles match, falling to the seeded Claire Hallock of Hope College 6-0, 6-1.
