Women's Tennis Defeats Concordia Wisconsin - Will Face Edgewood College For NACC Championship

Mequon, Wis. - Avenging an 8-1 regular season loss to Concordia Wisconsin back in September of last year, the Illinois Tech women's tennis team defeated the number two seed and host Falcons 5-2 in their NACC Semifinal match. The number three seed Scarlet Hawks advance to the NACC Championship match against number one seed Edgewood College Sunday, May 8th at 10am CT in Kohler, Wisconsin. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 15-5 on the season. The Falcons finish their season at 10-14.

The Scarlet Hawks opened up the match by taking doubles play 2-1. The number one doubles pair of Morgan Colbert and Kylie Hance defeated Concordia's Ricki Budewitz and Ashley Samuta 8-4. The Hawks' number two pair of Natalie Hamill and Allyson Trang bested Mia Andrae and Cheyanne Phillips in a close match, 8-7. The Falcons' number three pair of Elizabeth Johnson and Mallory Moen defeated Saumya Sukhthankar and Mouna Chahin in a close match as well, 8-6.

In singles play, Colbert, Hamill and Trang won their matches to give the Scarlet Hawks the necessary five match wins to secure the semifinal victory. Number one singles Colbert defeated Budewitz 6-2, 6-1. Number two Hamill defeated Samuta 6-4, 6-4, and number five Trang defeated Andrae 6-2, 6-4. Moen provided the Falcons with their lone singles victory, over number four Sukhthankar 6-3, 6-2. Number three Hance and number five Chahin were tied in their matches when play was halted once the Scarlet Hawks secured the fifth match victory.

With an Illinois Tech win on Sunday in the NACC Championship, the Scarlet Hawks would punch their ticket to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
