Women's Volleyball Announces 2016 Recruiting Class

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology women's volleyball team has announced its 2016 recruiting class. Head Coach Katie Reifert is excited about what each newcomer will bring to Illinois Tech volleyball.

"Our incoming 2016 class is a versatile group that I expect to contribute immediately, making our program more competitive next season," said Reifert. "Each athlete has a solid foundation playing at the competitive club level. I am looking forward to seeing them compete side by side with our returners."

Below is a profile on each incoming student-athlete

Taylor Burton

Position: Middle Blocker

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Stockbridge, Ga.

High School: Stockbridge

Club Team: Tsunami Club Volleyball

Intended Major: Biochemistry

Coach Reifert's comments: "Taylor Burton is a fantastic athlete that I think could excel at any position given the chance. I am looking forward to see what role she fills best for us next season."

Courtney Curcio

Position: Defensive Specialist

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Chandler, Ariz.

High School: Hamilton

Club Team: Spiral Volleyball

Intended Major: Architecture

Coach Reifert's comments: "Courtney has a resilience on defense that is exciting to watch. She will definitely add depth to our serve receive, and her speed and tenacity will bring some much needed grittiness to our defense next season."

Courtney Darling

Position: Setter

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Cumming, Ga.

High School: South Forsyth

Club Team: Metro Atlanta Volleyball

Intended Major: Chemical Engineering

Coach Reifert's comments: "The first thing that drew me in while recruiting Courtney was her competitiveness and passion for the game. As a new setter for the Hawks, I think she will integrate well into our offense. I see her bringing a strengthened level of communication to our team."

Katherine McCutcheon

Position: Middle Hitter

Year: Freshman

Hometown: Fountain Valley, Calif.

High School: Cornelia Connelly

Club Team: Ohana Athletic Club

Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering

Coach Reifert's comments:  "Personality alone, Katie is an asset with her maturity on and off the court. She will be a great addition to our front line with her size and ability to read the game."




 

Women's Volleyball begins the 2016 season on Friday, September 2 at the Buc Blast Tournament at Beloit College. The team's first home match is slated for Friday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Keating Sports Center. Live coverage of home matches will be powered by Illinois Media School.
