Women’s Volleyball Drops Match to Concordia (Ill.)

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team dropped a Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference match to Concordia (Ill.) on Tuesday.

The Cougars defeated the Scarlet Hawks in three sets, 3-0, with scores of 25-23, 25-11, 25-14.

How It Happened

  •  In a back-and-forth first set, Concordia going up 6-1 then the Scarlet Hawks going ahead 11-8 thanks to a kill by Leah Sanden then being tied 21-21, the Cougars put the match away and won 25-23.
  • After being tied 3-3 in the second set, The Cougars had the advantage the rest of the way, outscoring the Scarlet Hawks 22-8 to take set after hitting a .423.
  • Concordia built up a 7-0 lead in the set however Illinois Tech fought back and made 12-7 but the Cougars were too much and went on a 13-7 run to close out the set.
  • The Cougars had two players with double digit kills, Julia Spitelli led the way with 11 kills and Jaylynn Johnson recorded 10 kills.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  •  Taylor Burton was tied for the team lead in kills with five, a .250 attack percentage and three blocks.
  •  Sinjin Acuna led Illinois Tech on defense, as she recorded 16 digs.
  • Alyssa Miner also led the Scarlet Hawks with five kills and had a .176 attack percentage.

  • Illinois Tech returns to action Friday, October 16 as the Scarlet Hawks travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to take on Alverno College, match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
