Women’s Volleyball Ends Season With Loss Against Grinnell Saturday

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois Tech women's volleyball ended their season with a close match in all four sets but the Scarlet Hawks were defeated by Grinnell College Saturday.

Grinnell College (17-15) won in four sets against the Scarlet Hawks (5-21) (25-27, 25-23, 26-24, 25-23) at the Darby Gymnasium in Grinnell, Iowa.

How It Happened 

  • Illinois Tech won the first set, 26-24, thanks to a .156 attack percentage by the Scarlet Hawks. Karen Marrufo-Zuburan recorded back-to-back kills to close out the match.
  • Grinnell tied the match at 1 after taking the second set, 25-23, Illinois Tech led 22-19 but the Pioneers fought back and rallied 6-1 to take the second set.
  • The Pioneers took the lead after taking the third set, 26-24. With the match tied at 24-all, Grinnell scored the next two points to pick up the set.
  • Grinnell won the match in the fourth set after taking the fourth one, 25-23. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Karen Marrufo-Zuburan led Illinois Tech in the attack category, picking up 18 kills and hitting a .310.
  • Courtney Darling recorded 22 assists which led the Scarlet Hawks.
  • Illinois Tech had four players reach double figures in digs; led by Sinjin Acuna, who had 25.
