Women's Volleyball Upset By Marian 3-1

Fond du Lac, Wis. – The Illinois Tech women's volleyball team began their weekend trip to Wisconsin dropping their second conference match in a row, as the Scarlet Hawks lost to Marian University 3-1 Friday night. The Hawks dropped to 4-4 in NACC play, and to 12-7 overall. The Sabres improved to 3-5 in the NACC and to 6-18 overall.

How It Happened

Marian 3 – Illinois Tech 1

  • The Scarlet Hawks held a late lead at 19-18 in set one, but the Sabres responded with a 5-0 run to take a 23-19 lead on their way to a 25-21 set victory.
  • The Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead in set two, but the Sabres once again answered, completing an 8-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. Illinois Tech reclaimed the lead, courtesy of a 12-3 run for a 17-13 advantage. Marian would not get closer than three points the remainder of the set, with the Scarlet Hawks closing out a 25-20 set two victory, evening the match at one set apiece.
  • The Scarlet Hawks led only once in set three, at 1-0. Marian used a 13-1 run to take command of the set at 13-2. The Hawks would get no closer than eight points at 13-5. Marian wound up closing out set three with a 15-point advantage for a 25-10 set victory, moving ahead in the match two sets to one.
  • In set four, the Scarlet Hawks held a 13-11 lead midway through the set, but a 10-2 run by the Sabres gave them a 21-15 advantage. The Hawks made a late run to cut their deficit to 24-19, but Marian's Riley Shores secured the set and match point kill, 25-19 and three sets to one, respectively.
