Illinois Tech Swimming Kicks Off Second Half

Chicago, Ill. - Illinois Tech Swimming returns to the pool today(January 15th) to begin the second half portion of their schedule.

The Scarlet Hawks Men's and Women's teams won't have far to go, as they make the drive 24 blocks south to take on the University of Chicago at noon. The meet can be seen live here.

Assistant Swimming and Diving Coach Billy Bafia knows facing the cross-town Maroons will be a difficult challenge for the team.

"UChicago being our first meet of the semester will be tough but should be a great competitive environment to help us prepare for conference, which is what this last half of the season is really about for most of the team" Bafia said. "The team still has a long way to go, but this weekend should help better prepare (us) with some of the longer racing we are doing" Bafia added.

Among the swimmers competing in the second half of the season will be seniors Seth Wissenbach and Matthew Randle from the men's team, and Megan Burrill and Cladia Flores from the women's team.

After today, the Scarlet Hawks return to Ekco Pool on Saturday, January 22nd at 1pm for their final home meet of the season, when they take on North Central College.

"Overall, very excited to be competing this semester after a holiday break for the team" Bafia said.
