Lisle, Ill. - Despite a rain-shortened event at the Benedictine Invite on Saturday April 2nd, the Illinois Tech Track and Field team was still able to find success in the events they were able to complete.

"While we were disappointed (in the eventual cancellation), the health and safety of our student-athletes comes first and the conditions were conducive to injuries with the cold and rain" said Head Track and Field Coach Tyler McQuality.

Coach McQaulity pointed out that some team members who were able to compete set personal records, and in some cases, school records, on the abbreviated day.

  • Maria Plencner set a personal best and a school record in the women's discus with a throw of 30.73m
  • Alexander Dhom set a personal best in the men's long jump, and the #5 spot all-time at Illinois Tech at 6.29m
  • Robert Mathis achieved the #7 all-time spot at Illinois Tech for the javelin, in his first javelin event, at 34.93m
  • Kenna Flores, competing in her first outdoor track event, claimed the #5 spot all-time for Illinois Tech women's long jump at 3.38m

The squad will be back in action this Saturday, April 9th in Waukesha, Wisconsin for the Carroll University Pioneer Invitational.
