In August 2022, Joe Kelley was named assistant coach for the Illinois Tech men's volleyball team.

 
Prior to coming to Illinois Tech, Kelley spent this past season as a graduate assistant coach at Fort Valley State University in Georgia for their women and men in their inaugural season.
 
Kelley is currently the sophomore girl's volleyball head coach and he will be taking over as the boy's varsity head coaching position at Zion Benton this spring. This will be the coach's 5th year and he brings experience from clubs in the Great lakes Region, high school and Universities as well. Kelley finished his 2020 season at 630 Volleyball with a 5th place finish at USAV Nationals with his 17U team.
 
Prior to coaching, Kelley played three years of volleyball, primarily as a middle hitter, with several matches at other positions, at Robert Morris University - Chicago. He was a part of RMU's inaugural volleyball team and was also a member of the nationally ranked men's soccer team for four years. Kelley was named Defensive Player of the year his freshman season as a libero and he was named to the All Conference Honorable Mention list the following year as a middle.
 
Kelley grew up in the Lombard area, where he attended Willowbrook university before his time at Robert Morris. He hopes to use his local connections to help recruit top talent to the Illinois Tech program.
