OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Illinois Tech baseball team has played just four games thus far, but has alerady earned some weekly hardware. Sophomore outfielder Peter Upham takes home the Association of Division III Independents Player of the Week award after his strong start to the Florida trip.
Upham's award does not include Monday's action against Olivet, but his first three games of the trip were impressive enough. The Massachusetts native hit .556 (5-for-9) with a home run, five RBI, two runs scored, a .636 OBP and a 1.000 slugging percentage in the three contests. He smashed a three-run homer in the Scarlet Hawks' opening win against Beloit, accounting for three of the team's four RBI in the game. In game one against MCLA, the outfielder hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the eighth after driving in a run on a single earlier in the game. Upham also went 1-for-2 in game two against MCLA with a run scored.
Baseball resumes action in the Sunshine State with a 1:30 p.m. eastern (12:30 p.m. central) contest against Cazenovia at Lake Myrtle Field #4 in Auburndale, Florida. Live stats and audio will be available for the contest.
