CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech baseball team began its last WIAC home series of the year on Saturday, hosting UW-Platteville for a doubleheader at Ed Glancy Field. Tech (13-21, 4-14 WIAC)) took game one 14-4 in seven innings before falling to the Pioneers (7-27, 1-17 WIAC) 17-7 in the same amount of innings.
Runs-Hits-Errors: Game One
- UWP: 4 runs, 8 hits, 3 errors
- Tech: 14 runs, 11 hits, 2 errors
How it Happened: Game One
- After James Tarala pitched out of a jam with a pair of bases-loaded strikeouts in the top, Tech broke the game open in the bottom of the second with an eight-run onslaught. Via seven hits, two walks, and a sacrafice bunt, the Scarlet Hawks set themselves up for a solid afternoon. Third Baseman Ian Duke, shortstop Orlando Cardenas-Juan, and first baseman Ted Howell all had two-RBI singles in the inning.
- The Pioneers plated two in the third and fourth innings, but Tech sandwiched those runs with five in the bottom of the third. The Scarlet Hawks loaded the bases on walks before a hit by pitch from right fielder Zachary Dickey and another two-RBI single from Howell plated some of the runs.
- Jacob Geiger entered the game in relief of Tarala to record the unconventional nine-out save, retiring ever hitter he faced. In the bottom of the sixth, a sacrafice fly from Tyler Tucker put Tech ahead by 10, setting the team up for the mercy rule win.

- UWP: 17 runs, 14 hits, 1 error
- Tech: 7 runs, 7 hits, 2 errors
How it Happened: Game Two
- The game started off in wild fashion. After a three-run top of the first for the Pioneers, the Scalret Hawks scored twice in the bottom half courtsey of a balk and an advancement on a pickoff.
- Platteville used three consecutive hit batsmen to put up five more in the top of the second, but a grand slam by Hawks left fielder Nick Worden, his second home run of the year, made the score 8-6 after two.
- The Pioneers would continue the hot offense, scoring one in the fourth and four in the fifth off the Tech bullpen. An RBI single from Tech second baseman DJ Rybski in the bottom of the fifth made the score 13-7 after five.
- Two tuns in the top of the sixth and a two-run homer in the top of the seventh gave the Pioneers a 17-7 lead, sending the game to its eventual final score.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Geiger threw three innings of perfect relief in game one, striking out four.
- Howell's game one finished with a line of 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI. He followed that up with a 2-for-2 game two performance (double, walk, run).
- Cardenas-Juan was 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, and a triple in game one.
- Worden was 1-for-4 with two runs, two walks, foru RBI, and a grand slam in the second game.
- Rybski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run in game two.
