Cross Country Adds Meyer to Coaching Staff

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech cross country program has announced the newest addition to its coaching staff, as Desmond Meyer will serve as an Assistant Coach for Tyler McQuality for both the men’s and women’s programs in 2019.

“I am very excited to have Desmond join our staff,” said McQuality. “Our relationship dates back many years and has a great level of trust. He will help assist in all matters of practice and competition as well as recruiting and operations.”

Meyer comes to Tech after competing at NCAA Division I Chicago State University, where he majored in Business Administration. He was a three-time All-Academic Western Athletic Conference selection and recorded an 8k personal best of 25:24 as a member of the Cougars.

In addition to his experience as a student-athlete at CSU, Meyer has also worked as a sales associate at Fleet Feet Sports in Chicago and coached at the middle school level at Chicago Laboratory Schools and Oswego.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the Illinois Tech Cross Country Program,” said Meyer. “The program is headed in the right direction and I’m eagerly waiting to learn and grow while also being able to share the experience and knowledge I have acquired over the years.”

“Desmond knows our goals and ambitions with the program and where we want to go, which will help him play a vital role in the development of our student-athletes,” said Meyer. “He already has previous coaching experience and I look forward to having him learn and grow alongside me.”

Tech Men’s and Women’s teams open up the 2019 season in just a few weeks at the Elmhurst Early Bird Invitational on Friday, August 30.
