GREENWOOD, Ind. – Cole Dammeier has had one of the most decorated careers in the history of Illinois Institute of Technology’s track and field and cross country teams. This week, the senior added another prestigious honor to his list, as Dammeier was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® team. Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
A native of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Dammeier’s senior seasons may have been his best. The distance specialist won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference’s (NACC’s) 10,000m run with a school-record time of 32:26.71, earning him an all-conference distinction. He also was All-NACC in cross country with his 12th place time at the meet (26:08.52) and was named Tech’s Team MVP for both squads. All of the honors together, combined with his academic prowess, meant Dammeier was Tech’s male winner of the Ed Glancy Award, given to the best representative of Tech athletics both on and off the field. In the classroom, Dammeier sported a 3.97 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. Dammeier is also the lone male NACC athlete to receieve the honor for Cross Country and Track and Field.
After being named All-District, Dammeier will now have a chance to be named Google Cloud Academic All-America®. First, second, and third team honorees will be announced on Tuesday, June 25. He is the second Scarlet Hawk athlete to earn the Google Cloud honor this year, as baseball’s Ted Howell was named earlier in May.
