Scarlet Hawks Grab First Road Win

Watertown, WI- the Scarlet Hawks got their first road win of the season with a 60-57 victory over Maranatha Baptist avenging a 20 point loss two weeks earlier. It was the first road win in almost two years for the Hawks.

Illinois Tech got off to a fast start,jumping out to a 14-7 lead early on prior to leading 30-14 with six minutes remaining in the first half. Samuel Rarick was once again the catalyst with 21 first half points on 70% shooting (7-10). The first half ended with a beautiful cross over dribble move and jumper by point guard Derrick De Lara to give the Hawks a 33-24 lead.

The second half was closely contested and featured several lead changes. The Hawks trailed by as many as 7 points but responded with an 8-0 run that started with two made free throws by sophomore forward Anders Bybjerg.That run also featured two buckets by Rarick and free throws by De Lara. The Hawks got key contributions from Bybjerg (9 points 5 rebounds), De Lara (7 points 3 rebounds) and Vignesh Rajagopal (4 points 4 steals). Sophomore forward Samuel Rarick had his second 40 point game of the season finishing the night with 40 points and 12 rebounds. Rarick was virtually unstoppable, scoring in a variety of ways while shooting over 50% (13-25) from the field. Coach Todd Kelly was very excited about the victory " That was a huge win for our program, we really showed great composure and we played with more energy than they did. Derrick played really well,as did Anders and Vignesh".  When asked about Rarick, Kelly stated " There is no question that Sam has Division 3 All American level talent and he proves it every game. There's no doubt he is one of the best players in the country".

The Scarlet Hawks have 3 remaining games, 2 of which will be at Keating Sports Center on Feb19th and Feb 24th both at 7pm.
