Men's Basketball Upends Aurora 79-51

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's basketball team got out to a 2-0 lead 20 seconds into the game and never looked back, as the Scarlet Hawks defeated Aurora University 79-51 in a NACC matchup Monday night on Joe Hakes Court at the Keating Sports Center. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 7-10 overall, and moved over .500 in conference play at 6-5. The Spartans dropped to 4-12 (3-7 NACC).

The Hawks picked up where they left off Saturday night from a shooting percentage standpoint, as they shot 55.8 percent from the field in the ballgame. 

Milos Dugalic and Otis Reale both had 20-plus point nights for the Scarlet Hawks, including both going six for six from the free throw stripe.

 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Dugalic paced the Hawks with 24 points, and added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block.
  • Reale finished with 20 points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
  • Calvin Schmitz had eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Kyle Hornacek had 8 points, and led the Hawks with 8 rebounds.

Spartans Watch

  • Justin Wilson had 13 points and five rebounds.
  • JT Daniels had 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • Shamar Pumphrey had 10 points and four assists.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Hawks shot 33% from three-point range on 6-18 shooting. The Spartans finished at 17% from three (4-24). 
  • The Hawks committed 20 fouls in the contest; the Spartans had 17 fouls.
  • Illinois Tech was 15-20 from the free-throw line (75%). Aurora was 9-14 (67%).
  • Schmitz was the minutes leader for the Hawks, playing 32 minutes. Pumphrey played 26 minutes for Aurora.
