CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Tech men's soccer team dropped it's opening Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match to Aurora, 4-1, Wednesday.
The Spartans narrowly outshot the Scarlet Hawks on the night, 14-13.
How it Happened
- Aurora had the upper hand early as Collin Foreman found the back of the net, scoring the first goal of the match in the 10th minute.
- Illinois Tech picked up a costly mistake, picking up a foul in the box in the 44th minute leading to a Christian Duarte goal to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead at halftime.
- The Scarlet Hawks were able to get that goal right back early in the second half as Matt Gombar had a corner kick and found Peter Fouchet as Fouchet scored an outstanding goal off a bicycle kick in the 47th minute.
- Another costly mistake by Illinois Tech made Foreman scored his second goal of the match off a free kick in the 71st minute.
- As time was winding down, Aurora added the final blow as Andrew Grabowski recorded his third goal of the season in the 89th minute.
Scarlet Hawks Standouts
- Peter Fouchet scored his first goal of the season on an amazing play which ended in a bicycle kick where Fouchet found the back of the net.
- Santiago Bartolome recorded three shots, which led the team with one being on goal.
- Oluwaseun Ogunsanya had two shots on the evening.
- Despite the setback, Illinois Tech recorded 10 corner kicks as a team
