Burrill Headlines a Quintet of Scarlet Hawks Swimmers to Liberal Arts Conference Championship Success

Elsah, Ill. - The Scarlet Hawks swam their final races of the season on day four of the Liberal Arts Championships on Saturday, February 12th at Principia College.

On the men's side, the evening was kicked off with a conference championship win for junior Mark Klinchin in the 1650-yard freestyle. His finishing time of 16:00.38 set a new pool record and also achieved the NCAA B qualifying time standard. Klinchin also achieved the 1000-yard freestyle school record, flipping at a time of 9:41.56.

The evening rolled on with fifth-year Matthew Randle storming back to a conference championship win and breaking the school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:53.20.

Other notable swims on the evening included a third place finish by first-year David Halmy & a seventh place finish by first-year Marko Nikoletic in the 200-yard butterfly finishing with times of 1:57.14 & 2:04.55, respectively. A 48.25 in the 100-yard freestyle moved junior Sam Kastan up into a third place finish as well.

The men wrapped up a strong performance at the Liberal Arts Championships with a 2nd place team finish, scoring 762 points during the weekend.

On the women' side, the evening began with a conference championship win for first-year Kristen Hampton in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.51). The session rolled on with another conference championship win by junior Anna Slominski in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a NCAA B qualifying time of 2:21.69. The evening was wrapped up by junior Megan Burrill, winning the conference championship, setting a new school & pool record, and achieving the NCAA B qualifying time in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.51).

Burrill was named Swimmer of the Meet for her performances throughout the weekend. She achieved two conference championship wins, two school records, and two NCAA B qualifying time standards. As a team, the Scarlet Hawks finished the meet in 3rd place with a total of 521 points. Full results from the weekend can be found on the Swimming & Diving page.
