MOLINE, ILL.—The 2020 season opener pitted the Illinois Institute of Technology men's tennis team at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois on Saturday for matches against Wabash College and Augustana College. The Scarlet Hawks opened the day with a 9-0 shutout of Wabash, followed by a 7-2 loss to Augustana.

IIT exits Saturday with a 1-1 overall record.

Scarlet Hawks 9, Wabash 0 (Box Score)

Davis Housman/Brody Croonquist came through with an 8-3 win over Thamipillay/Mathis in #1 doubles. The #2 and #3 doubles positions each picked up 8-0 wins. Roman Shishlov/Alann Torres defeated Vanyo/Hargitt in #2 while Andy Fang/Yousef Abdo took down Courter/Randle in #3.

IIT picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories in #3, #4, #5 and #6 singles courtesy of Abdo, Torres, Laitinen and Fang. Shishlov defeated Thambipillaty 6-1, 6-3 in #1 singles while Housman picked up a default win over Mathis in #2 singles.

Augustana 7, Scarlet Hawks 2 (Box Score)

The Scarlet Hawks fell 8-5 in all of their doubles bouts to begin the match in a 3-0 hole.

The bottom of IIT's lineup prevailed against the Vikings as Laitinen defeated Kyle Boudreau 6-2, 7-6 in #5 singles. Fang kept that momentum going with a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Scott Daluga in the #6 slot. 

IIT couldn't equate that at the top of their lineup as they fell in #1, #2, #3 and #4 singles.

The Scarlet Hawks will host Eastern Illinois University at the XS-Tennis Center on Friday, January 31 at 12:00 p.m.
