Erik Scanlan enters his fifth season as the Illinois Institute of Technology head tennis coach in 2021-22. (MEN: 39-30, four seasons) (WOMEN: 39-24, four seasons)

In the program's inaugural 2017-18 season, the Scarlet Hawks saw consistent growth as Scanlan guided the women's program to nine wins, and the men's program to 10 victories. That growth skyrocked in 2018-19 as the men registered an 18-10, 9-0 NACC mark en route to a NACC Regular Season and Tournament Championship, which resulted in Illinois Tech's first NCAA Division III Tournament appearance among all sports. After the 2019-20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Scarlet Hawks men duplicated that success in 2020-21 as they registered an 8-1 overall record en route to their second NACC Regular Season and Tournament Championship. Scanlan guided the Scarlet Hawks men to their first ever NCAA Division III Tournament victory with a 5-2 decision over St. Scholastica (Minn.) at University of Chicago's Stagg Tennis Courts on May 14, 2021.

The women registered a program-best 17-7, 8-2 NACC record in 2018-19. The Scarlet Hawks women have accumulated 13 NACC Scholar Athletes, while the men have registered 13 throughout Scanlan's three seasons as head coach.

Scanlan came to Illinois Tech by way of Carthage College, where he served as a graduate assistant coach for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. While at Carthage, both the men’s and women’s programs enjoyed great success with Scanlan on staff. The men’s team combined for a 42-14 record over Scanlan’s two seasons, winning the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship in both years. Carthage’s women’s team was also strong, combining for a 35-12 record over the two seasons. In addition, a total of 13 student-athletes were named All-CCIW during Scanlan’s tenure at the school (seven men, six women).

Prior to Carthage, Scanlan attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he was one of the region’s strongest Division III tennis players. A four-year letterwinner for the Warhawks and a two-time team captain, Scanlan collected 135 wins in his collegiate career, NCAA All-America honors in 2010-11, and qualified for the ITA Regional and National Tournaments.

Scanlan’s coaching experience expands beyond Carthage, as he is also the head tennis professional at Glen View Club in Glenview, Illinois and involved with US Sport's Nike Tennis Camps. The Libertyville, Illinois native graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance. Scanlan went on to earn a master's degree in education from Carthage in 2016.
