Strong Marks the Case For Scarlet Hawks on Day One of NACC Outdoor Championship

MILWAUKEE, WIS.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's track & field team embarked on day one of the 2021 NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Friday. The Scarlet Hawks sit in ninth place through day one with two points, while MSOE is in first place with 98 points.

Lucas Taylor scored the Scarlet Hawks' two points in day one with a seventh-place toss of 38.80m in the hammer throw, while teammate Barry Brookins trailed him in 11th place with a 33.50m. Taylor built on that momentum in the javelin, where he took ninth place with a 33.44m.

Thomas Doyle (2:02.99) and Evan Balizado (2:03.20) each secured a spot in the 800 meter run finals as they crossed the finish line in third and fifth place in the preliminaries, respectively. A pair of Scarlet Hawks barley saw themselves on the outside-looking in on the finals as Robert Mathis took 10th place in the 200 meter dash prelims with a 22.78, while Christian Allen also took 10th with his time of 54.67 in the 400 meter dash prelims.

The Scarlet Hawks will embark on day two of the 2021 NACC Outdoor Track & Field Championship tomorrow, Saturday, May 8 at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
