No. 13 Wentworth Escapes From Scarlet Hawks

BOSTON, MASS.—The tail-end of a four-game Massachusetts swing pitted the Illinois Institute of Technology men's volleyball team at No. 13 Wentworth for a rare Sunday-morning meeting in Boston. IIT took the Leopards to extra points in set three, but couldn't seal the deal in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 26-24) loss.

The Scarlet Hawks fall to 1-7 while Wentworth improves to 7-2.

Wentworth led from start-to-finish in their 25-17 victory in set one before the Scarlet Hawks registered their lone lead of the match in set two when they held a 16-15 advantage. The Leopards responded with five kills and forced two IIT service errors en route to a 25-22 victory. 

The third set saw IIT on Wentworth's coattails until they tied things on two occasions at 23-23 and 24-24. The Leopards iced the match with a Ryan Love kill, followed by a Scarlet Hawk attack error, which secured them a 26-24 victory and 3-0 match win.

Andriy Bench paced Illinois Tech with nine kills, while Tyler Ford (16) and Jannik Birkholz (6) teamed up for 22 assists. The defense was commanded by Derek Bostick's 15 digs and Michael Sherwood's four blocks. Hunter Oshman paced Wentworth with 12 kills, followed by Alex McLane's 11. The Scarlet Hawks hit .137 compared to the Leopards' .250.

IIT will host Trinity Christian College on Saturday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m.
